Forest on her sound, new single, and upcoming projects

Forest is an up-and-coming artist who is making a name for herself in Chicago, Boston, and now LA. Her music is inspiring and her passion for her craft is evident in every note she plays.

Since writing songs on the ukulele in eighth grade, the 20-year-old has gained a whopping 23.2K listeners on Spotify, and 13.6K on TikTok. Two EP releases and a handful of singles later, Forest is ready to find her mark and sound as an artist.

Her most recent single, “Death of Us,” was released on September 8th and features innovative pop-punk techniques that differ from her prior works.

“I was in that weird space where I was writing a lot of faster things and I just found these cords that were super pop-punky,” Forest said. “I was listening to a ton of My Chemical Romance and Sex Pistols at the time, so I was like, ‘We’re gonna run with this.'”

With lyrics of heartbreak, disappointment and betrayal, Forest describes it as the perfect single for “jumping around in your room like a madwoman.”

“I had a phone call with my ex-boyfriend and he basically told me some news that I was like, ‘I told you this would happen and you called me crazy,'” Forest said. “I got more angry about it than I should of. It’s more metaphorical than actual things that have happened.”

Inspired by the industrial sounds of Snake River Conspiracy and Deftones, Forest plans to expand her discography and explore heavier instrumentals in future projects.

“I want to lean into the fact that I’m a girl doing boy-genre-type music,” Forest said. “Slower vocals with heavy stuff behind it is what I love making and enjoy performing.”

Forest plans to include these new sounds in her upcoming third EP release. “We’re figuring out if we want to work it into a nine-track album or a six-track EP, but I’m leaning toward an EP,” Forest said. “I wanted an album but I’m really stubborn and was not jiving with how the album was turning out.”

Forest announces that her next single, which took four months to create, was the most enjoyable to write.

“I had the idea for that one but didn’t really know what I wanted to say. Once I did it all just flew out,” Forest said. “Melodically I’m just really pleased with it. It’s a lot more dynamic than Porno and BODIES.”

Finally finding her sound, Forest is ready to showcase all that she has to offer as a female in the ever-growing music industry.

“All artists want people to listen to their music and so I felt that releasing singles until I felt people would care that I’m releasing an EP was important,” Forest said.
