Jesse Detor on latest single, tour and forthcoming EP

In the constantly expanding realm of pop music, Jesse Detor, a twenty-year-old, is making waves by reviving 90s girl rock with her babydoll dresses and intentionally messy, yet seemingly flawless, hair. By belting out tunes about egotistic ex-relationships, Detor is channeling the rage of every young girl with a 90s spirit.

Since releasing her first single, ‘Never New’ in 2022, Detor has gained a following on social platforms like TikTok. Her latest single, ‘Mirror,’ was released on Sept. 14, with the accompanying music video following a week later on Sept. 21. With her gritty vocals full of attitude, backed by heavy, distorted guitars and dynamic drums, Detor rebelliously stakes her claim as a female in the industry.

“It was about this person that I was kind of involved with for a while, and they were very self-centered, very egotistical,” Detor said. “They could make you feel good about yourself but didn’t actually care about anyone but themselves.”

The ‘Mirror’ music video takes place in St. Paul, photoshoot venue, The Zebra House. Full of vintage glam and furniture, it transports watchers straight back to the 90s, as if she rose in fame alongside Hole and Veruca Salt themselves.

“The video is me having fun in a fun little bedroom in my fun little outfits and just being like, “I don’t know why you would do this, I don’t know why you would act like this,'” Detor said. “Sometimes people do things that are messed up and you can get really sad about it. I’m not gonna wallow over the opinion of somebody that I don’t think very highly of, myself.”

After receiving high acclaim for a potential song on TikTok, Detor has officially announced her next single and EP, ‘Sophia I’m Sorry.’ The singer reveals the single was originally supposed to be a bonus track, used as the namesake and released later on, but decided otherwise after receiving positive support from her fans.

“We have six singles that are going to be coming out over the next six months, which is exciting. It’s an EP but it’s gonna be spaced out,” Detor said. “It’s focusing on a breakup in the different manifestations of the way that that shows up. Each song lines up with a different stage of healing and a different way of reacting to that pain.”

Following the launch of her forthcoming EP, Detor conveys her aspirations for embarking on a tour. After playing house shows in the heart of Boston, and even a show in New Jersey, the singer is ready to get out into the world and rock out in style.

“I’d love to play in as many places as possible. If I can get myself together and be organized, I would love to try and book a DIY tour this summer, or as soon as possible,” Detor said. “People have schedules and jobs, and it’s hard to do. At some point in life, I will absolutely be touring.”

Detor, with her gritty girl rock persona, exudes confidence with her signature kinderwhore style which has ultimately catapulted her into rising fame. Her emotionally charged songs have struck a chord with teenage girls across the globe and have become anthems for those seeking to express their angst and innermost feelings.

“I’m a big advocate for talking about how you feel all the time, maybe even too much at times,” Detor said. “I hope that people can listen and feel encouraged to be honest and to express themselves.”
